Risk Factors
It is said that Kleptomania begins during young adulthood or after fifty years of age. Those with this disorder may live a life of shame and embarrassment, in which they refuse to seek medical attention (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2011).
People who suffer from Kleptomania & risk factors:
Being female- Approximately two-thirds of people diagnosed with Kleptomania are women.
Brain Injuries People who suffer from Kleptomania may also suffer from risk factors which includes- People who have had head trauma or head injuries are more than likely to develop Kleptomania.
Having Another Mental Illness- A majority of people with Kleptomania also have another mental illness. These disorders include personality disorders, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, or substance abuse.
Family History- The risk of developing Kleptomania increases if a person's blood relative also have Kleptomania or any other mental illness.
